Best Area to Stay in Port Lincoln
But first – which part of Port Lincoln is the best to stay in? There are two areas to consider. First the centre of Port Lincoln, mostly around the foreshore with all the pubs, restaurants and shops nearby. This seems like a no-brainer, but there is another option and a good reason why you should choose it. If you have come for shark diving in Port Lincoln, then the best place for accommodation is at the Port Lincoln Marina. While it is around 4km from the city centre, it is only a short walk to either of the shark diving companies at 6am to get on the boat rather than coming from across the city.
So Which is the Best Place to Stay in Port Lincoln?
That really depends on what you are after, There are quite a few very comfortable options in Port Lincoln, but you are not going to find five star accommodation here. There are also some very nice budget options too. The below selections covers a range of options for all types of travellers and budgets.

The Port Lincoln Hotel
Port Lincoln Hotel is probably the most well known accomodation in Port Lincoln thanks to some local celebrities being involved in the redevelopment project a few years ago that made it what it is today. It has everything you would expect in a four star hotel. Located right on the Port Lincoln foreshore in the middle of town, it couldn’t be positioned better. There are three different areas to eat at from the upmarket Sarins Restaurant to more casual dining in the bars. Rooms accomodate up to three people. This is definitely a great choice if looking for accomodation in Port Lincoln for a couple.
The Shark Apartments are a group of three located in the Port Lincoln Marina area. The rooms are modern, clean and comfortable, providing a kitchenette with cooktop and microwave to allow for meal preparation. There’s a big screen TV and the free wifi is fast and reliable. These apartments are the best place to stay in Port Lincoln before shark cage diving as they are located on metres from both of the tour operators that run the tours.

The Marina Hotel is located, unsurprisingly, at the Port Lincoln Marina. It provides accomodation in a range of full-sized apartments in a seperate building to what appears as the hotel. All apartments contain a full kitchen and everything you need. Some have a spa bath, and some have balconies overlooking the marina. The main hotel itself functions as a pub, with great meals available that are popular with visitors and locals alike. The Marina Hotel is only a few minutes walk to both shark cage diving operators, with one of them boarding their boat right out the front. Apartments can sleep up to nine people so these are a great accommodation option for groups or larger families.
Port Lincoln YHA
Port Lincoln YHA is great for budget travellers both young and old. Of course there are the usual dorm rooms available, but there are also private rooms too, some with their own ensuite. A family room that sleeps six people is also available as are wheelchair accessible rooms. There’s a BBQ on site and a full kitchen. They have bikes for hire too for exploring the city. Staying at Port Lincoln YHA means taking advantage of the option to be social with other travellers in the small on-site bar if you want to, and the staff can provide you with all the tourist information you need for the perfect trip.
The Hilton Motel is a good three star motel offering right on the Port Lincoln foreshore. Many of the rooms have great views over Boston Bay. The rooms are standard hotel style ranging from a basic queen room to family rooms sleeping up to four people. There are spa rooms available too. Breakfast is available on site and it is only a short walk to many cafes and restaurants. Note: this should not be confused with those “other” Hiltons.
Bay 10 Suites and Apartments
Bay 10 is a complex of six apartments offering luxury accommodation on the Port Lincoln foreshore about five minutes walk to the Port Lincoln centre. They range from a simple studio, to apartments and to a villa. Facilities here are a step up from the usual, including things like an ipod dock and complimentary Netflix. The largest rooms accommodate up to four people. This is the best place to stay in Port Lincoln if you enjoy the finer things in life or are visiting for a special occasion.
Little Hacienda is a one bedroom holiday home. It’s just a few minutes away from the centre of Port Lincoln, with views over Boston Bay. With a full kitchen, washing machine, balcony and BBQ, this holiday home has all the benefits of staying in your own home. It has modern furniture throughout and a lovely bathroom. This would be the best places to stay in Port Lincoln if you like to return to a place that feels like home and spend some time relaxing here during your stay.
Studio Marrakech is a guest house with fantastic sea views and a great, homely feel. It’s your own private space attached to a family home. The studio has a private bathroom, a tv and a private patio. You have access to free parking, wifi and Netflix. Breakfast is included in the room rate, with a gluten-free option available. This is the best place to stay in Port Lincoln if you enjoy homestays and interacting with the locals when you travel.
Port Lincoln Foreshore Apartments
The Port Lincoln Foreshore Apartments are well appointed modern apartments only 250m from the centre of Port Lincoln. They are all two or three bedroom apartments, housing up to seven people. The apartments are spacious with balconies and access to BBQ facilities. There needs to be a minimum stay of two nights, and even the cheapest apartments allow for four people to stay. This is a great place to stay in Port Lincoln if you are travelling as a group and would like to take advance of the entertainment facilities of the apartment.
Port Lincoln Caravan Park
The Port Lincoln Caravan Park is located right on the seafront about 10km north of the centre of Port Lincoln. It has plenty of cabin accommodation, all with private bathrooms. The largest cabins sleep six people. This is a great place to stay in Port Lincoln with kids on a budget as they have plenty of room to run and play and enjoy the beach. You will need a car here though to get into the centre of Port Lincoln.
