Tom’s Court Hotel is a relatively new addition to the Adelaide accommodation landscape. I had the opportunity to stay a night and now I am sharing my thoughts with you.
Take a look – this could be exactly the Adelaide hotel you are after.
TL;DR? Here's the outline
About Tom’s Court Hotel
Tom’s Court Hotel is a modern, boutique-style accommodation on King William Street, right in the heart of Adelaide’s CBD.
Opened in December 2020, it features sleek, self-contained apartments that are perfect for travellers who want the convenience of a kitchen and laundry facilities combined with hotel-style comfort.
The rooms are clean, stylish, and well-equipped, with many offering great city views.
It’s also pet-friendly, making it a great choice if you’re travelling with a furry companion.
Its central location puts you within easy walking distance of Rundle Mall, the Adelaide Central Market, Chinatown, and public transport, making it an ideal base for exploring Adelaide.
With secure access, it’s a smart, no-fuss option for both short and extended stays.
Arriving at Tom’s Court Hotel
While the entrance to Tom’s Court is easily spotted on King William Street, the hotel itself is set back from the road a little. This means a short walk through the front building, but the way is clearly signed. There is also an entrance at the back from Tom’s Court, but that will be impractical for most people (we didn’t use it).
We were able to find (paid until 6 pm) street parking right out the front, but I know there would be more options nearby. Tom’s Court does offer a parking deal with a nearby secure carpark for $25 per day too.
The reception area is simple but practical. There are some seating areas if you need to wait and a small kitchen area where tea and coffee is free.
There is also a book-swap shelf here for those in need of a new read.
Check-in was smooth, taking all of two minutes. We were offered a late checkout when I asked for the checkout time (10 am) which was gratefully accepted.
The reception staff were friendly and easily answered my questions. Other staff we met during our stay were also friendly and pleasant.
Our Superior Queen Room
There are a range of rooms available at Tom’s Court Hotel, split into three categories:
- Standard Rooms – Standard Queen, Standard Twin, Accessible King
- Superior Rooms – Superior Queen, Superior Twin, Deluxe King
- Suites – Junior Suite, Deluxe Suite, Interconnecting Rooms
They also have dedicated pet-friendly rooms available on request that include a bed and bowl for your furry friend.
We were staying in a Superior Queen room, so about the middle of the range.
This modern hotel room includes a queen-sized bed with bedside tables and handy reading lights. It’s not huge, but not tiny either, with enough room to comfortably move around.
There is a small desk area – probably not big enough to work comfortably for a whole day, but helpful for quick tasks.
The room has a kitchenette with a microwave, kettle, mini fridge, and basics like plates and cutlery—perfect if you want to cook a simple meal or have a quick breakfast.
There is a pod coffee machine and specialty teas, along with the standard tea and coffee on offer.
You’ll also find a full-size wardrobe to store your clothes, with a decent iron and ironing board.
I was surprised at first to not see a safe, but it can be found hiding under the bed – a great way to use wasted space in my opinion.
The bathroom is clean and modern, with a walk-in shower, a large mirror, and fresh towels. Single-use toiletries are provided, as is a good hairdryer.
There are plenty of power sockets and USB charging points around the room, so it’s easy to keep your devices charged. You’ll also have a flat-screen TV, air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and best of all—a private balcony where you can enjoy sunset views over the city.
Other Hotel Features
Digital Compendium
Tom’s Court Hotel has one of the best hotel compendiums I have seen – but it’s not one of those folders stuffed in a drawer. Here it is all digital.
On the back of our door was an information sheet including some basic points, but with a QR code pointing to the website where there is more about everything you could possibly need.
Streaming to TV
While streaming from your own device to a TV is not a unique feature in hotel rooms today, we found the setup here to be particularly simple.
My husband was kicking back watching the Premier League on Optus Sports in no time.
The TV does have all the standard free-to-air channels available, and it was simple to find them and use – not always a given for this non-tv person.
The Location
I know I’ve already mentioned the location, but I want to emphasise it again. In my opinion, this was one of the real benefits. It was out of the main bustle of the city, and closer to some of my favourite food spots.
We had dinner on nearby Gouger Street, home to Chinatown and many other great eateries. The next morning we chose to go the the Adelaide Central Markets, also on Gouger St, for breakfast.
There is a tram stop almost right outside the building, with free tram rides to Rundle Mall, the North Terrace precinct, Adelaide Railway Station (to walk through to Adelaide Oval) and the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.
In the other direction, the tram will take you straight down to Glenelg, a popular Adelaide beach location.
I have stayed in the Adelaide CBD many times, and I loved this option. I found new places – like a nearby dessert bar – and liked that there was a good supermarket and bottle shop nearby, to grab our snacks and wine to enjoy as we watched sunset on our balcony.
Dining Options
While Tom’s Court Hotel does not have any restaurants onsite, they do have some options with local businesses.
You can purchase some room packages that include breakfast. This will mean you can dine at the nearby Seoul Sisters. Even if you do not have breakfast included with your room, guests can take advantage of their breakfast offer.
There are dinner discounts available at Saracens Head Hotel and the acclaimed La Trattoria restaurant, which is right outside and makes arguably the best pizza in Adelaide.
But as I said above – there are so many other fantastic dining offers nearby!
Fitness Options
While there is no gym onsite, there are again partnerships with nearby gyms. Speak with the reception staff to find the nearby options.
Tourist Information
On entry from King William St there is a wall with tourism brochures and suggestions to help out visitors to Adelaide.
I was impressed to see that there were also prepaid SIMcards available here too, perfect if you are visiting from an international location and need to get connected.
Final Thoughts
I really enjoyed my stay at Tom’s Court Hotel and would happily book here again. It’s modern, comfortable, and incredibly well-located – tucked away just enough to feel relaxed, but still right in the middle of the action.
It’s a great option for all kinds of travellers. If you’re visiting Adelaide for a weekend getaway, in town for work, or doing a longer stay and want the convenience of a kitchenette, this place ticks all the boxes.
It’s also ideal for pet owners, thanks to the dedicated pet-friendly rooms, and perfect for first-time visitors who want easy access to public transport and great food just steps away.
If you’re looking for a clean, quiet, and convenient base in Adelaide, Tom’s Court Hotel is well worth considering. I’ll definitely be back!
